Life Writing Retreat - Start Your Story

Following on from our successful Crime Writing retreat in July 2018, we are looking for aspiring and beginning writers to join us for a three day retreat of fabulous writing tutoring and coaching to kick-start your writing journey.
 
We would like you to apply for this fantastic opportunity to enjoy a writing holiday in the heart of beautiful Harrogate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the county which has inspired the likes of the Bronte sisters, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Alan Bennett and is home to the Harrogate Crime Writing festival and Internation literary festival.
 
Run by the proprietor of Acorn Lodge, life coach and writer Ali Standen along with creative writing teacher, poet and novelist Maria Stephenson we are offering a packed three days of concentrated writing tutoring, coaching and time to write your life story or an aspect of your life.

What's Included?

• A comfortable en-suite room (sharing or room with separate bathroom available at a reduced rate)
• All home cooked, locally sourced meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea and coffee breaks.
• Tutored writing workshops with published poet, novelist and creative writing teacher Maria Stephenson
• Life Coaching sessions with Writing Coach Ali Standen
• Group and one to one sessions with Maria and Ali
• Plenty of time to be immersed in your writing
• Afternoon Tea at The Swan Hotel (where Agatha Christie famously disappeared in 1926)
• Further activities (e.g mindfulness/relaxation, woodland walk)
• Optional post-retreat programme of set writing tasks and personal development activities

A non-refundable deposit of £100 is due when your application is approved. Balance is due by 31st January 2019.
 
Maria Stephenson
Maria is author of Poetry for the Newly Single 40 Something and Don't Call Me Mum. She also has two crime novels coming soon. She has been leading writing courses, workshops and retreats for five years and is described as an inspiration and encouraging teacher. She holds Qualified Teacher Status and has an MA in Creative Writing.
 
Maria will:

• help you 'live' as a writer
• identify your writing aspirations
• help you generate ideas to begin and follow several writing projects from conception to publication
• identify aspects of your life you will write about
• develop a variety of writing skills

Ali Standen

 Ali, along with partner Phil, is the proprietor of Acorn Lodge. She is a qualified teacher of Psychology and experienced Life Coach with an advanced diploma from The Coaching Academy. She has written short stories for many years and is nearing completion of her debut novel. She is described as a motivational and uplifting coach.
